On Saturday afternoon, between 4 and 5 o'clock, a phenomenon almost unknown in. Napier—a tall of snow—took place. It continued for a short time, but melted immediately on touching the ground. At Haveloek, we believe, it remained on the ground for some time. The night preceding had been unusually frosty, and on Saturday morning, the snow was observed to lie very low on the ranges. The weather yesterday was exceedingly fine—bright sunshine with a bracing wind. In the District Court this morning the District Judge gave judgment in the case of "Breingan v. Sutton. His Honor considered that the plea for the defence—that due notice had not been given of the promissory note having been dishonored—was bad in equity. He had devoted much attention to the case, and in those portions where there was a conflict lie accepted Mr Lyndons .statement as the most correct. He decided that- due notice had been given, and gave judgment for the amount claimed, JcSQ (i£B4, amount of note, with c£2 interest), and costs of Court, .£3 4s. Mr Sutton, in the absence of his counsel, gave notice of appeal, and also applied to the learned Judge for a copy of the decision, which was pro mised by his Honor. In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning there were no cases.
