The Tauranga correspondent of the New Zealand Herald writes that the first instalment of cattle, belonging to Mr H. Alley, of Napier, arrived at Oropi on Thursday, June 6, having been brought overland from Napier, where Mr Alley has had large stations which be has recently sold with a view to settling in the neighborhood of Tauranga on land about to be leased from the natives, negotiations with whom nre now in progress, through the agency of Mr James JY{.ack.»y, jwu, Mr Alley's location will be somewhere beyond whence Ohinemuri and the Thames are accessible as markets. Seven stockmen accompanied the present herd, which consist of store cattle, many of them being cowa in calf, in consequence of which they had to be driven slowly, %\ days being consumed in the journey. la the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, one drunkard was fined five shillings. A large number of children have died from scarlatina lately in Melbourne. Having heard it suggested that sinfulness brought the burning on Chicago, Philadelphia is looking out for lots of new fire engines.
