Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1872.

Mr F. pulton has written to us to the effect that the preliminary steps, having been taken to bring the information against Paoya Torotoro before the Supreme Court, no good end can be served by publishing the decision in the District Court. Our sole object in publishing this long decision is to keep pur readers fully informed of the progress of a case in which several important issues are involved, and the earlier stages of which have already been very fully reported in our columns. It is quite impossible that the publication of a decision in the .District Court could in any way prejudice proceedings pending in the higher tribunal.

A number of Californian quail for the Hawse's Bay Acclimatisation Society arrived here last night by the Star of ||ie £>puth from Auckland.

A very interesting congregational soiree was held in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church last evening, in token of respect to the Be v. G. Morice, who held the position of minister of that churoh during a period of five years. The proceedings commenced with a teameeting in the school-room, at the cJose of Mhich an adjournment was made to the church, which was crowded in every part. The Rev. Mr Skley occupied the chair. An address was read and presented to Mr Morioe, as well as a purse of sovereigns Mr Morice made a suitable reply. The meeting was addressed by the Revs. D. Sidey, A. Shepherd, H. B. Redstone, G. M. D. Irvine, and R. Taylor; also by Messrs J. Wood, W. Carlile, and other gentlemen. A well selected programme, of music was performed at intervals by the choir. Votes of thanks having been passed to the pei formers and the chairman, the proceedings closed about 9.30 p.m. In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, only one civil case was heard—Gray v. Wilkes, a claim of <£l 13s.—Judgment for amount claimed, with 9s costs. During the past month rhe business at this Court has been al most unprecedentedly 'light.
