The Napier Artillery Volunteer-, held their quarter!v inspection yesterday afternoon. There was a fair muster, about 33 members of all I’auks be ing piesent. Our Auckland letter, to hand per Star of the South, i* unavoidably held over. Fn the Provincial Council yesterday, Mr Sutton presented a petition from |O4 inhabitants of Napier, praying that Clive Square might be vested in trustees, and introduced a bill with the same object. Mr Kennedy brought forward a motion to rescind the resolution relating to the Market Reserve, which was negatived. The Credit Act was introduced, and the Police Act was passed through committee. Under the title of the Meanee Toll-gate Bill a very important measure, introduced by Mr Tiffen, was read a second time, and passed through committee. Its object |s to make a direct main road from Battery Point to Taradale. The idea was very generally approved, and in committee Mr Tiffen entered into \ery minute details. The bill was reported as amended, as also the Harbor Bridge Bill, both of which will come up for their third reading to-day. The Council adjourned to 2 p.m. to-day, and it is expected that the session will close on M onday. Prom the estimate of revenue and expenditure laid before the Provincial Council of Taranaki, for the half year ending Heceniber, it appears that the available revenue for the year from all sources, including the fifteen-shilling capitation grant, but excluding grants for public works, as being of an exceptional character, only amounts to the gum of .£4,450 j while the expenditure iu climated at X 5,985,
