T. R. Brown left Melbourne on the Ist May, with moderate N. and N.E. winds. Changeable winds were then fell in with until the 7th, when a heavy S.S.E. gale was encountered, and lasted till the night of the 9th, the vessel at times shipping heavy seas. Sighted Stephens' Island on the 14th inst., and went through Cook's Straits the same night. On the 16th inst., experienced a heavy I.W. gale, which was succeeded by light and variable winds with fine weather until arrival here at 4 p.m. on the 18th inst. She brings about 170 tons general cargo.—Reports having s'ghted the schooner Cora, hence on the 16th inst., for Pelorus Sound, off Bare Island on the 17th. The same day, a few miles south of Cape Kidnapper, saw a large school of whales, believed to be sperm, close in shore. —The Hector was brought into the Iron Pot yesterday. The s.s. Napier, Capt. Bendall, returned to port at 2 p.m. yesterday, from Poverty Bay, bringing 5 passengers. This steamer, we learn, will not leave port for some days. The schooner Saucy Lass, Capt Smith, left Auckland for Napier via Mercury RjlV on the 13th inst. She would ship a cargo of timber at the latter place. The ss. Keera, Captain Carey, from Auck, land, arrived at Tauranga at 10.30 yesterdayand left for Napier at 12.30 p.m. Her arrival here may, therefore, be looked for early tomorrow morning. She will meet with quick despatch for the South, as per advertisement. The s.s. Star of tue South, hence at 11.30 a m. on Friday last, arrived at Auckland at 9 o'clock last night. The ss. Taranaki, having on board the English Mail via Suez, arrived at Wellington from the South at 930 a.m. yesterday.
