A CHICAGO. ROMANCE,

The Chicago papers, just before the fire, chronicled a. romance in real life that happened in that city, which might well employ the ardent pen of a novelist. It vas a fine moonlight night when a young clerk " might have been seen," and in fact was seen, musingly strolling down Wabash A.venue towards his frugal boarding house. Casting, his eyes towards the lake, what was his surprise to see the figure of a lady, clad in a while dressing gown, at the water's edge. As she was moving slowly towards the moist element, and was evidently a somnambulist, the youth felt justified in interfering to prevent her from taking an unexpected bath. He, therefore, grasped her arm and awoke her from the trance, Comprehending the situation at once, she became extremely embarrassed, and blushingly allowed her gallant attendant to escort her to her paly tial residence,, near at hand. So politely and delicately did he conduct himself under the very peculiar circumstances that lie produced a very favorable impression upon the young lady's mind. Not long afterwards they met at a party, but did not recognize each other. They met again two or three times, and one evening it was his lot to accompany her home. They passeJ up the avenue* and to his great delight she paused before the same door to which he had led the beautiful somnambulist. He could not resist an. exclamation of surprise, and when she asked the cause and saw his confusion, the whole affair suddenly flashed across her mind. Tableau. And now thereis a talk of a wedding whereby gallantry will be united to loveliness, and not a little wealth, so that there in no immediate prospect of the lovers going over, the hills to the poor-house;
