Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1871.

For the report of the Supreme Court proceedings yesterday we are indebted to our pop temporary the Herald, our own reporter being unable to attend ihe Court.

We have to acknowledge the receipt of a copy of " The Hawke's Bay Almanac and Commercial Directory for 1872," published by Mr. M. E Hayes, of this town, and printed by Dinwiddie, Morrison & Co., of the Herald oifiee. It is printed on a Luge sheet, is well mounted, has a handsome appearance, and is highly creditable to all concerned in its production. The advertisements are numerous, and form almost a complete business directory; there is also a useful calendar, and a directory of all public offices and institutions. The varnishing and mounting of the almanac is, we believe, the work of Mr. J. Dinwiddie. Mr Hayes deserves much credit for the complete manner in which he has brought out his almanac, and we trust he will be rewarded by finding it a commercial success.

We learn that the favorite steamer Star of the South may be expected to arrive from Auckland on Tuesday or Wednesday n*\xt. The fine Band of the Napier Volunteer Artillery purpose giving one of their popular open-air concerts on the green opposite the Herald office on Saturday (to morrow) evening, commencing at 8 o'clock. The following is the programme:—

1. QuickStep—"Meet me ia the Lane"... Collins 2. Quadrille—" Satauella " Laurent 3. " Was ist desDeutschen Vaterlaud"... Eeictiardt 4. Waltz—"ldylls of the King" Ileury 5. Mazurka—" Marylan d" Reele 6. Galop—"OverlandMail" ... D'Albert

Messrs. M'Meckan, Blackwood and Co.'s splendid s.s Albion is advertised to steam hence for Auckland on or about Wednesday next, 27th inst, She will remain in Auckland four days, arid then return to this port direct. It will be seen by the advertisement shat return tickets by this line vessel are placed at an unusually low figure. The s.s. Napier returned to port at 11 o'clock last night, from the coast,

bringing 108 bales of wool She is now filling up with wool for the Ballarat, and is expected to take off about 200 bales/ '

We perceive by an announcement in another column that the Napier Rifle Volunteers and Rifle Cadets purpose giving a picnic in M r Hallet's paddock at Meanee on Boxing Day, which will dpubtless be well patronised.

We have intelligence of another vs 00l ship to load here this season. The iron clipper ship Glenhuntly may be expected to arrive at this port in about a week, from Dunedin, and will immediately commence loading for London direct,

The usual weekly parades of the Napier Rifle Volunteers have for the present been discontinued. They will, hovvever, be resumed during next month.
