A correspondent of the. Lyttelton Times, writing on the Chatham Islands, says :—The health of the islands is very good. The Maoris and Morions are planting large quantities of potatoes, as several Colonial and American, whalers are expected this season instead of going to Pitt'-* Island. The ]V|angotutu, Inn has changed hands at j£4Qo,—Mr. Bris&qe, lately from England, being the purchaser. Sheepsh earing has commenced. The winter has been very wild and stormy, with heavier rain than, has Ijeen known for years No whalers have visited the islands since March last. The Magellan Cloiid arrived from Auckland on the Ist October, after a rapid run of four days. The newly apr pointed President Magistrate gives every satisfaction, and has won the respect and esteem of every que on the island.

A Licensing Amendment Bill has been introduced in the AncJkiand Pro r vincial Council to make the. attestation, of a single witness to .signature,-* to $ petition under the permissive clause, sufficient. It uaises the wholesale license to ,£3Q.
