There appears to have been some failure of justice in the case of the Tennyson-street row—only one offender and he bv no means the worst, having been brought before the Resident Magistrate. Tt will be seen, however, that his Worship intends to rigidly en force the law in such, cases in future, and to remove what has. no doubt been the exciting cause in this and other instances.
The Volunteer cadets, to the number of thirty one, have been armed with small and handy muzzle-lqading carbines, and there is much joy and pride in the corps in consequence. Some of the younger members, however, who are not considered old or advanced enough to be placed on the same footing as the rest, and who applied in vain for anns, are not a little disappointed. In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning one man concerned in the late midnight tow in Tennyson-street was brought up and fined Jgl with 5s 6d costs. The lull penalty for the offence would have been £lO, but he was evidently not one of tlje chief offenders His own statement was that he had been grossly insulted by one of the party named John Franklin, and had become engaged in a light with him. PoliceConstable Cog) iUn reported that such disturbances were not unfrequent at the clone of public entertainments. His Worship said that such disorderly conduct must be put down, and that if any more such alfairs were reported, he would take measure-to stop the sale of drink at places of public amusement.
