HARDINGE-ROAD.

TO TnE EDITOK OF THE HAWKE'S BAY TIMES. g lßj —lii view of the great and rapidly increasing traffic on that portion of the Eastern Spit laid down on the maps of the town and suburbs as kl Hardingeroad," could not something he done in the way of forming a road along that thoroughfare 1 I would have it to be understood that I am not advocating the formation of a metalled road. Such would not, I think, be advisable, at least at present; and would, moreover, lequire the outlay of more money than there would be equivalent benefit for. But 1 certainly think that were a few cart-loads of limestone or clay deposited on that road, allowing it to mix with the shingle, the result would be a good hard road, and this, too, achieved at but a trifling cost. By adopting this plan a good road has been made for about 2 miles on the Napier side of the Petane bridge. T am aware that no money was voted for the purpose of being spent on Hard inge road during last session of the Provincial Council, but I venture to hope that our worthy Superintendent, —notwithstanding his well-known and commendable repugnance to (as a spending money unauthorised by vote of Council, —would have no hesitation in sanctioning the expenditure of a small amount for* a work so much required as this one. In conclusion, I would suggest to those residing on "the beach " the advisability of appointing a deputation to wait upon the Superin fcendent immediately on his rehirn from Wellington with reference to the subject I have referred to. —I am, &c , A Householder.
