In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning two inebriates, who had freen locked up since Saturday night, were discharged with a caution, his liyorship considering that the twentyfqur hours' incarceration was sufficient punishment for a first offence. jamas phase was charged by the police with being on tha premises known as the Plarendon Stables between 3 and 4 o'clock this morning. The constable pn duty saw him, about half-past 3 am., go through the open gate leading to the stable and. enter the building, the jdoqr of which has no lock. He was found lying dpwn inside. —In defence, he said that he had the permission of pne of the proprietors, Mr Dennett.--Mr Nesfield, the other pi*oprietpr, said that Mr Dennett, yesterday afternoon, gave tjie defendant leat e to lie down iu the stable, but not to go there at night. —Mr Inspector Scully said that a number of robberies from these stables had recently taken place, and blame had been cast upon tjie police. He thought the doors should be better secured, if only in the interests of public safety, as several fires in this town had originated in stables at night.—His Worship said as the accused appeared to have joeen under the impression tnat Mr J)ennptt had given him leave to sleep in the stable, the charge would \\e> dismissed; biit such a thing must not pppur again. With regard tp the repent thefts frpm the building in question, he, thought that people should take prpper precautions for the protection of their property. They had no right tp the one policeman on duty at pigtyt to take charge pf t*n unlocked

We learn that the Government steamer Luna will steam for Wellington at 11 o'clock to-morrow forenoon. The steamer Keera may, we learn, be expected from Southern Ports on or about Sunday next, and will steam for Auckland via Poverty Bay and Tauranga on the following evening.
