Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1871.

The friendly rifle contest between seven members of the Napier Rifle Volunteers, and seyen numbers of the Band of the same company, takes place at 6 o'clock to-morrow morning. The Napier "Volunteer Artillery Band gave another of their justly appreciated open-air conceits last night, on the green adjoining Routledge, Kennedy and Go.'s auction mart. Tfre weather was unfavorable, owing to the prevailing high wind. Notwithstanding this, however, a large number of people attended, and repeatedly testified their appreciation of the performance by loud and hearty applause. The following was the programme : Marc h . —" Krieger's Lust" Qungl Lancers.—" Merry Tunes " Godfrey Selection. —From "The siege of ' Delhi" Baiter Waltz.—"ll Baaio" ... LugiArdlti Pqlka.-V Abbotsford" ... ...J. S. Jones GALOP. —"Tommy Dodd" ... ... N. La Feuillade Goo Save the Queen ! A single case of drunkenness (which was dismissed) came before the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day. With reference to the ketch Midlothian, recently wrecked at Wairoa, we are glad to hear that efforts, are about to be made to repair her sufficiently to enable her to make the trip to Napier, when no doubt she will be thoroughly overhauled. Mr J. Northe, ship-carpenter, of this port, started overland for Wairoa last night, for the purpose indicated.
