The wind, which for the last day or two has been strong from the N. W., took a sudden change this morning to the S.E., accompanied with heavy rain. A. fine larjre and fat pig, weighing probably aborit 300 lbs., whilst being ( driven down this morning to be shipped on board the Saucy Lass, suddenly expired on the road—death jeyjden.cly Resulting from exhaustion. In the District Court this afternoon, in re Tareha and others v. Cashinore, \his Honor Mr Rochfort granted the rule nisi applied for by Mr Stedman, the injunction to take effect from Monday next, and remain in force until the suit between the parties, now pending in the Supreme Court, comes on for hearing —Mr Wilson, in order to complete his case, applied that a day might be fixed for him to bring forward a motion to discharge the injunction. The application was granted—this day week being fixed. The Napier Rifle Volunteers and the £adet Corps paraded for the usual Government monthly inspection yesterday afternoon, opposite the Band room, Hastings-street, Capt. Robinson in command. The attendance was numerous. After inspecting the men, Major Withers read a letter containing instructions from the Defence Minister to the effect that no more volunteer corps were to be formed in the Pro vince; the companies now existing must not exceed their present strepgth, but would be allowed to fill up vacan cits cause.d by resignations, &c. The men were then formed into "fours," and, preceded by their fine Band, marched as far as the open space be itween the Bank of New Zealand and the Post Office, where they were dismissed, — Capt. Robinson intimating, previous to breaking off, that he would have something to say to the members of the company next parade day. The monthly inspection of the Napier Volunteer Artillery took place yesterday afternoon in Cliye Square, Major yVithers being inspecting officer. There was a tolerably good muster, the corps being under the command of Lieutenant Swan, in the absence of Oaptain Routiedge. This being the quarterly inspection of bandsmen's carbines ? the Band flid not play. Victorian tend.ers for the cpnsfciuc tion of ten locomotive engines, at a cost $f ead 1 * have been accepted.

We are informed that the Band of the Napier Volunteer Artillery will perform in Olive Square to-morrow (Friday) evening, at 7 o'clocjk, should the weather permit. The remainder of the voluminous .evidence in the ease Tareha and others v. Cash more will appeal* in to-morrow's issue, besides a fuller report of his Honor's decision.
