Mr Nancarrow, Inspector of Steam Vessels, arrived here by the Luna from Wellington last night, and left for Auckland in the Nevada this evening.
We regret to hear that Capt. W. Bendall, of the s.s. Napier, is suffering from the effects of influenza, from which he is at present laid up in Auckland. The Napier, this trip, is under command of Capt. Carey, formerly of the s.s. John Penn. We have been informed of an accident which occurred on Saturday last in the vicinity of Waipawa, fortunately unattended with loss of life. It appears that, on the day in question, a buggy nnd pair of horses, driven by Mr Sayce, commercial traveller, was proceeding along the Te Ante road, about 2 miles on the Napier side of Waipawa, when the horses commenced kicking and plunging in rather a furious manner, and the buggy had a very narrow escape from being precipitated clown the gully on the side of the road. As it was, the pole of the buggy was broken, and one of the horses received severe injuries from being kicked by the other horse. Mr Sayce escaped uninjured.
