Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 1871.
"We learn that a picnic of the chil dien connected with St. Joseph's convent took place at the mission grounds at Meanee on Saturday last. A sumptuous repast '.vas provided by the Rev. Father Reignier, and the day passed off very pleasantly, notwithstanding that the weather was anything but favorable. There was a very large assemblage of the rising generation, who all seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The hon. Julius Yogel has returned to the Colony from his visit to the mother country. He was passenger for Wellington by the Nevada on Saturday night.
There was no business at the Kesiddent Magistrate's Court this morning. According to a writer in the Wellington Independent, the number of Maori inhabitants in the North Island is estimated at 32,301. The first steamer freight for the Fiji Islands ever sent from California was to have left San Francisco on July 18.
