We would draw attention to a sale (advertised in to-night's paper) of certain building materials by Eoutledge, Kennedy &_ Co., at noon to-morrow, at the new Union Bank premises.

We have been requested to announce that the Rev. R. Taylor will (D.Y.) hold Divine Services on Sunday next, lj3ihinst., as follows, —At Hampden at 11 a.m., at Waipawa at 3 p.m, and at Kaikora at 6 p.m.

We hear that a detachment of some 50 or 60 of the Armed Constabulary Force may be expected to arrive here from Wellington by the Lima, about Tuesday next. *

About 200 natives of the Ngatiporou tribe have, during the last few days, been conveyed from Poverty Bay to Wairoa in the s.s. Napier, the pursuit of Te Kooti being the stated object of the movement. In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, several cases were called, but only two came up, in both of which judgment was confessed. These were : Wood v. Merritt, £3 13s.— Judgmw&l; for amount and 14s costs. ]sott v. Schroder, £4 15s.—Judgment for amount and 9s costs. The Sheep Act, parsed .during -the late session of the Provincial Council, has received the assent of the Governor. We intend, in an early issue, to publish this important measure in full. All the Maori prisoners have now left Wellington, the remaining six from Mount Cook Barracks having been shipped for Dnnedin by the s.s. Wellington on the 7th inst. His Excellency the Governor has summoned W. B. Rhodes, JEsq., of Wellington to the Legislative Council of New Zealand. Mr John Gillies, father of the Super in tend en t of Auckland, died in Punedin on the 22nd July, aged 70. His Honor the Superintendent of Auckland arrived at Vv ellington on the 7th inst., and left for Dnnedin in the s.s- Wellington the same day. One of the Nebraska's - men had a narrow escape from drowning in Wellington harbor on the night of the 6th inst., as the vessel was getting imderweigh. The crew of the harbor pilot's boat, which was hanging on to the Nebraska at the time, heard a splash in the water, and in pulling up to ascertain the cause, discovered that one of ship's stewards had fallen overboard unobserved. He was taken into the boat not without difficulty, and from thence on board the vessel, where he had not been missed Mr J. C. Crawford, Resident Magistrate of Wellington, did not sit on the Bencli on the 7th inst. The Evening Post regrets to learn the cause of his absence was the serious illness of his second son. Among the outward passengers by the Nebraska from Wellington on her last trip was the Rev. W. H. Ewald, late curate of St. Paul's, Thorndon. A considerable number of friends went on board with him to wish him a pleasant voyage, while not a few added to that wish " a speedy return." The Evening Post, August 7, says : —The Rev. Mr Harvey, the now curate of St. Paul's Cathedra], anivecl from Lyttelton by the Nebraska, and entered upon his new duties yesterday morning. After the prayers had been read, and immediately before the sermon, the Bishop of Wellington, standing in front of the Communion rails, read the order appointing Mr Harvey to the curacy.
