The bazaar last night was again a centre of attraction, and a good evening s business was done. As the tim& approached for the raffle of the goat and carriage, the room became denselycrowded. Shares (at 2s 6d each) had been taken to the amount of £7 l&s, and much interest was felt in the result.. The prize fell to Master John Elmea. We are informed that the total proceeds of the bazaar amount to £59. The following cases came before the Besident Magistrate to-day :—Stuart & Co. v. M'Kenzie.—A claim of £9 13a 3d. —A dmitted.—Judgment for amount and 19s costs. Stuait & Co. v. Hawkins.—A claim of <£3 Is 4d—Judgment by default for amount claimed and 9s costs. In reference to the question of the recoveiy of interest, which arose in these cases, his Worship said that where it was notified on the bills that interest would be charged on overdue accounts, and the item had been regularly charged in the accounts rendered, it might be recovered in the Court. He would, however, only allow 8 per cent, in accordance with the practice of the higher courts. A penny reading entertainment in connection with the West Clive Total Abstinence Society took place in the school-room, West Clive, last evening, aud was well attended. The Rev. H. B. Redstone presided. Readings were given by Messrs Riddiug, Hicks, Ballentine, Hawken, and T. Moore; and sengs and recitations by Messrs. Massey, W. Hague, and G. Faulkner. We believe it is the intention of the committee to continue these readings for some time, and we trust they will receive the support they deserve at the hands of the public.
