The sb, Lord Ashley left Wellington for Napiei at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The European and American mails via California reached Port Chalmers List night, the Nebraska having arrived at 8.30 p.m. We perceive by advertisement that a tea meeting, in connection with the opening of the new Methodist Church, will be held in the church on Tuesday evening next, Ist August. The bazaar in aid of St. Paul's and Port Sabbath School-, which commenced yesterday afternoon in Mrs. Grant's school-room, has so far been very successful. Though the heavy rain of the morning had made the streets very disagreeable, there was a good attendance, and the wares disposed of realised good prices. The more expensive articles were disposed of by lottery: but the great piize—the goat and carriage —will not be drawn for until to night, the whole of the shares not yet having been taken up. The tiny carriage was the centre of an admiring group, and the docile animal, dressed in his appro priate harness, came in for his fall share of admiration. Among the attractions of the evening we must not omit to mention the music—one or tvo of the young ladies present having favored the company with a selection of popular airs on the pianoforte. The evening's cash receipts, we are informed, exceeded .£34. We would remind our readers that the bazaar will re open at 6 o'clock this evening, the stalls having been replenished for another evening's campaign.
