A 9 we go to press, two vessels are working up the Bay it sight from the port. They are supposed to be the brigantine Amherst, from Newcastle, and the ketch Why Not, from Porangahau. The Lyttelton Times, July 15, says:—" The Eliza M'Phee and the Jupiter, coal laden, and the Lloyd's Herald, with a cargo of timber, went ashore on the north spit of the Kaiapoi bar yesterday afternoon. The vessels went ashore during the afternoon tide, the water on the bar being unusually shallow. The Jupiter is in the worst position." The same journal, in its issue of the 17th inst., thus refers to the above: —" We are glad to learn that they are now in a comparatively safe position. The Lloyd's Herald got off Saturday morning's tide, and the Eliza M'Phee and Jupiter were expected to get off on Saturday evening." Regulations for the establishment of a sick and superannuation fund for the benefit of pilots are gazetted in Melbourne.
