Thursday, June 1. The Assembly are discussing the Budget. Anti-tariff meetings are being held, and deputations appointed. At Alexander's funeral on Sunday there wore 1,500 volunteers, four military bands, and thousands of spectators. The steamer Auckland has been wrecked near Cape Howe—passengers and cargo saved. A collision has taken place between the Yarra steamer and the Dandenong tug Hercules. The latter was sunk. Ai the Hunt Club Meeting the Hurdle Race was won by Dolo, and the Steeplechase by Reindeer. A new paper, called the Australian Israelite, has been established. A young woman named Pawsey has been arrested. She is believed to be the mother of the child lately found murdered at Geelong. Another horrible case of infanticide has occurred at Sandhurst. The Rev. Mr Anner, charged with a criminal assault upon a child, has been committed tor trial. Breadstuff's market slightly easier. Flour, £l6 10s to £l7. Adelaide wheat, 6* lid; New Zealand seed, 6s to 6s 9cl; milling, 5s lid to 6s 4d. Artivals—Jessie and Swordhsh fiom Lyttelton.
