Monday, J vine 5. Bishop InEvill]-:: was consecrated yesterday at Si. Paul's Church, in the presence of a large congration, and was inducted in the evening by Wellington and Nelson preachers. Bishop Moran's discourse on educa tion last night was very hitter. He condemned the Ota o system as about the worst possible. Sessions commenced to-day—calendar light. The case of McLcod, charged with libel, was adjourned to next session.
Mr Barton surrendered on his own recognizances, and a-ked to be discharged. The application was deferred, pending the discharge of the Grand Jury In the course of the proceedings, Mr Macassey read his telegram in.i mating that it was rumored that the prosecution had been abandoned, because the Times employees intended availing themselves of their privilege and giving an undertaking. No such privilege had been sought or intimation
given. Mr Barton considers the abandonment of the proceedings taken an acknowledgment of the truth of the statements published by him, and intends without delay to institute ci\il proceedings for malicious prosecution against tho;-'e who instituted proceedings against him.
