The busine>s of the Provincial Council during the past few days has been conducted almost as though the object of members was to postpone theine\itable end of the session, and the ivsult of its delibet ations has been so small, that full reports would only exclude more intere.-ting matter. On Wednesday a petition was pre sented from Mr Alley, praying that a fine ot £5 under the Sheep Act might be remitted, the prosecutor having, had

no legal power to summon him. A grant of .£IOO was made to Captain Carter, after some opposition from Mr Sutton. A motion by Mr Dolbel, in stmeting the members of the Province to endeavor to have a block of land at Mohaka purchased for a special settlement vas carried. A motion by the same member, authorizing the expendi tureofi.7o to establish a ferry across the Mohaka river, was also carried. The report of the Special Settlements Committee and the report of the Te Ante Trust Committee (published in our last J were adopted—Captain Russell opposing the latter. A Dog Nuisance Bill (a stringent measure J passed its second reading. The Appropriation Act and the Credit Act •were read a third time and pas.sed. The Grammar School Repeal Bill was read a second time, committed, and reported to the Speaker. The Wholesale Dealers jn Spirituous Liquors Licensing Bill s'as. i a second time. The Council

adjourned to 7, after which it weat into commiitee (adjourned) on the .Highways Acb, and sat t : .il 10 30 f Yesteulay, the Napier School Act was read a third time and passed. The report of tli* Select Committee on the apportionment of the Wellington Debt was read and ordered to be printed. The report of the Select Committee on Road Boards was also read. The Dog Nuisance Bill wa-i committed, and occupied the Council till 6.15 p.m. The measure was strongly opposed by a number of the members, on the grounds that it inflicted great hardship on shepherds and others oblige 4 to keep a number of dogs, by levying an annual tax of 5s on each animal, and that the only portion of the Bill which could be of use was already amply provided for by an Act of the General Assembly. Several divisions were taken, and the Bill, slightly modified, passed the committee. The Council adjourned to 7.15 p.m , and on resuming, went into committee on the Sheep Bill, with which it was occupied till 10.45 p.m., when it adjourned to this day.
