Mr Pulford and Mr Balhany, who arrived in town last night overland from Wairoa, bring intelligence of a melancholy occurrence which took place the day before yesterday. About 3 p.m. on that day, Mr M'Kenna, the Wairoa mailman, was being crossed oyer the Mohaka liver (which wa. c : flooded) by the ferryman. The current being very strong, the horse turned round, and drove the punt against, a snag, which knocked a hole in the bottom, and the two men were thrown into the water. The feriym.au, with grelit difficulty, came ashore safe, but JV3r. M'Kenna, we regret to state, was drowned. The horse and the mail were hayed, but Mr M'Kenna's body had not been recovered up to .our latest intelligence. Yesterday, in Committee of Supply, the special estimates for the year were passed. There being no money available for the numerous requisitions of members, the Council to-day in Committee of Ways and Means, will inost likely endeavor to find some new of raising revenue. A proposal
