Friday, May 19. News from Auckland has been received up to last night. The Thames difficulty is in the same

uncertain state. The Hau Haus are obstinate and resolute.

Messrs. Puckey and Kemp have returned to Auckland, from an interview with the natives, and report unsuccessful.

The King's messenger had arrived and interviewed Te Hira. Mr. Mackay engaged him in debate some hours, when, covered with shame, he decamped, leaving Mackay conqueror. Great feastings all over the Upper Thames.

Commissioner Clarke, accompanied by all the Tauranga chiefs, met the llau Haus at Te Puna. A warm debate ensued about the telegraph. The Hau Haus expressly wish to stop the works, until the King's assent had been obtained.

Commissioner Clarke and party spoke plainly, informing them that the laud had been sold to the Government years ago, and the money spent. The Tauranga chiefs are determined to allow no obstruction to the telegraph works.

Yesterday, Tlarley, who had previously been committed for trial for selling ammunition to the natives, was again charged on fresh information. This makes three charges against him. Great praise is due to Detective Doolan for his diligence. The prisoner, who has a large family, was much affected iu Court, declaring his innocence.
