Colonel Harrington was a passenger by the s.s. Lord Ashley from Tauranga this morning. . .
We learn that the hon. the Defence Minister and Sir G. Grey may be expected to arrive here by the p.s. Luna, now hourly looked for from the North. The average speed attained by the Nevada on her trip from San Francisco to Auckland was 258-| miles a day. The services of the Wellington Highland Rifle Volunteers have been accepted by the Governor. The Auckland papers report that Lady Bo wen is indisposed. A telegram in Ihe Auckland Evening News, dated Short land, May 6, reports that "Te Hira expected to consent to the renewal of the Tauranga mail service in a few days." The Lancashire Bellringers were performing in Auckland at latest dates. According to a Shortland telegram in the Auckland Evening News,, dated 6th May, the Ngatihara tribe have withdrawn all opposition from the opening of the Te Aroha block.
His Excellency the Governor lias accepted the services of a volunteer company, the members of which have chosen for themselves the somewhat singular designation of the " Auckland Harmonic Riße Volunteers."
