Monday, May 1. Tt is proposed to give a banquet to the officers of the Nevada to celebrate the inauguration of the new service. A horrible tragedy occurred at Caversham this morning. A woman named M'Phee, the wife of a publican, was ravished by Kane, her husband's partner. This preyed on her mind so that in the morning she cut her child's throat with a butcher's knife, almost severing it; she then attempted to commit suicide. She is not expected to recover. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of Kane! : Tuesday, May 2. The woman McPhee died this morning. The man Kane was brought before the police court to-day on a charge of rape, but was remanded pending the inquest. Another death from scarlet fever has occurred at Switzer.s.
