THE FILIBUSTERING EXPEDITION.
[Sydney Advertiser, March 6.] The Colonial Government has received a telegram, from the Home Government, to the effect thai advices had been received from America of the probuble departure from the States of a filibustering expedition destined for the Australian Colonies, with a view to intercept the gold ships when on their way to England. The telegram furthei states that a visit +o Sydney is included in the. de>ign. The telegram was received by theGovernment vesterdav, but owing to its being addressed to his Excellency theGovernor, who was out of town, it was. not made public until this morning. 200 additional men have been put on to hurry forward the fortifications, and to place the guns in position. Sir James Martin and the other members of the Government have gone down for a special inspection of the defences. Jt is stated that E. C. Cracknel!,, Superintendent of Telegraphs, has been in communication with the Government, and the Commodore, and that special instructions have been issued to all the coast telegraph stations to use every vigilance in looking out for strange looking vessels. We have been favored by Sir James Martin with the following ;- " The British Government have received a statement which they do not credit, but think it right to send word, that a filibuster expedition is to. leave the United States this month for Melbourne, Sydney, and Otago," Telegram dated 16th Feb, 1871, The Cabinet have been to the fortifi--cations to-day. There will be 20 guns in position before the end of this week.
