Provincial' Council. — It will he seen by advertisement that Singleton Rochfort, Esq., principal Returning Officer of this Province, has appointed the fh sb meeting of the recently-elected Council to take place in the Council Chamber on Saturday, 22nd inst., at 3 p.m. Supposed Suicide. —Cobb's coach yesterday brought in information that a Jew dealer named Barnet, who has resided for some time in Napier, is supposed to have drowned himself in the Akiteo river. Some time since he was in the employ of Mr Manoy, in Napier, but afterwards obtained some goods and went up country on his own account, as a travelling dealer. At "Waipukiirati he commenced drinking, and continued this course for some time. At Akiteo he had an attack of delirium tremens, and twice rushed into the river to drown himself, but was rescued by some persons who had observed him. He seems at length to have eluded them, and disappeared. A search has only resulted in the discovery of his clothes on the river bank, and there is great reason to fear that in his madness he has made another and more success ful attempt at suicide.
