Ensign Henry Stokes Tiffen to be Lieutenant. Date of commission, Bth November, 1870. Ensign Thomas Kennedy Newton to be Lieutenant. Date of commission, Bth November, 1870. Ensign Sydney Griffiths Brandon to be Lieutenant. Date of commission, Bth November, 1870. Bichard Halkett Lord to be Lieutenant. Date of commission, Bth November, 1870. Resident Magistrate's Court.— 3STo cases tliLs morning. The Court of Petty Sessions will, we believe, sit at Meanee to-morrow. Steam to Poverty Bay.—The sailing of the s.s. Napier has been postponed until eight o'clock this evening. The English Mail via Suez will be due in Melbourne to-morrow, and tljat via San Francisco at Auckland abput the 15th instant. Appointments.—From the New Zealand Gazette of the 31st ult. we find that the following native chiefs have been appointed Assessors under " The Outlying Districts Sale of Spirits Act" of last session :—For the Taupo District—Pohipi Tukairaugi, Hare Tau teka, Hohepa Tamamutu, and Perenara Tamahiki, all of Taupo. For the Waiapu District—Henare Potae, Pita Houao, Karauria Pahura, of Tokamaru; Mokena Kohere, Ropata Wahawaha, Hotene Porourangi, Wikiriwhi Matehe, Hamiora Tamanui of Waiapu. For the Wairoa District—lhaka Whaanga, Paora Rerepu, and Paora te Apatn, all of Wairoa.
