Wednesday, April 5. No new Government has yet been formed in the place of the Reid Ministry, Escort returns—ll,6l4 ounces. The scarlet fever has broken out at Waikouaiti. Mr John Hughes, a late Goldfields member in the Provincial Council, is reported to have died suddenly at Cromwell yesterday. 3.30 p.m.—The report of Hughes" death turns out to be a canard.
