We (Evening Post, March 28) very deeply regret, to have lo record the death of Mr R. who, for the last eight yeaiN, lias held die office of Chief Cleric in the Postmaster-General's office. Mr Macalister was a native of Wick, Caithnesshire, and originally emigrated to Otago, if we mistake not. Some time ago he broke his leg. and although he recovered sufficiently to be able to use the limb pretty well, his constitution received a severe shock by the accident, and he never perfectly regained hi-, health. Some weeks ago he was advised to try the effect of the hot springs in the north, and obtaining leave, he went up theie, and after a short sojourn felt much better. He had leached Alaketu on his return home, when he was seized with the illness which terminated fatally to-day—his decease being telegraphed to his family this morning. Mr Macalister watf about sixty years of age, and ,v as deservedly respected, both as a public officer and a private individual. He leaves a somewhat numerous family.
