The following is from the Southern Cross, March 18 :—Live Stock Market. —Draught horses are at a considerable advance in value over- late markets. Good animals brought freely from £2O to i:3O each ; medium and aged stock, from £7 10s; liding horses, from £5 to £l3 15s. At a public sale, fat cattle, best animals, brought from 22s to 26s the lOOlbs; store lambs, 5s 9d to 6s 9d each The Evening Post, March 24, says : One of the Maori prisoners confined in Mount Cook Barracks died yesterday after a long illness, during which he was attended by Dr Grace. The deceased was named Te Huaki. As usual when a prisoner dies, an inquest was held to-day. The evidence proved thai deceased had been for more than a month suffering from diarrhoea, and had, after the manner of his race, made up his mind he was to die.
