Thursday, March 23. More than three thousand spectators were present at the races. Tlie weather was fine, and the course was in better condition than was anticipated. Maiden Plate—Swindle, 1; Tiger, 2. Swindle won by two lengths. For the Forbury Handicap seven horses started. Slander, the favorite, made a good start; Catapult leading. The race was a close one to the finish. Catapult, 1 ; Bobby Burns, 2; Tatton, 3. The Cotting Race was won by Magic; time, 3 minutes 3 seconds. For the St. Kilda Stakes five horses started. Yatterina and Lydon were scratched. Backbiter made a good lead, which he maintained throughout; Miss Flat came in second.
