(Reports to March 10.)
[MR. ALFRED BUCKLAND.]
At the Haymarket on Saturday last very few horses were ofi'ered : there was no variation in values. Oats brought 7s 6d the cental; ryegrass seed, 2s 6d the bushel. At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cows met with a steady demand at last weeks's prices. Dry cows were easier in price ; calves sold more freely ; two-year-old steers were dull of sale. Fat cattle were in full supply —150 head sold ; they were of good quality, and sold freely at prices varying from 22s to 26s the lOOlbs. Fat sheep were in moderate supply and met with a steady sale at last week's rates. Lambs were in short supply, but scarcely so saleable, as for a few weeks past. Pigs were in reque-t and sold freely j but without improvement in value over past markets. The following were the prices realised :—Cows at Calving, £7 to £lO ss; store cows, from £2 each ; weaned cabes, 26s to 30s; yearlings, 34s to 60s ; two-year-olds, from £3 15s each ; fat cuttle, an average of 24s the cental; sheep, near 2i[-d the lb.; pigs, 4d the lb. llorses: tho market has been well stocked with most descriptions, and sales of medium and low priced were moro numerous than of late. At auction on Saturday, above the average offered j there was a large attendance of buyers, and considerably above the average number were sold. Some very good draught stock were withdrawn, sellers declining to transact at present prices. We quote hacks from £6 to £9 10s; lighc harness horses from £ll 10s to £ls each.
Cattle : Supply moderate with increased activity, with but little alteration in value. For dairy and store stock there has been an improved demand; for fat beasts and really prime, an advanced rate has been obtained. The bidding at Tuesday's sale at the Junction waa characterised by a good deal of spirit, and gales were numerous, although several lots withdrawn, vendors looking for rather hif h prices. At the Shore on Wednesday there-was an improvement on last quarter's sale, although purchasers were coniined to that side of the water. Dairy cows gold from £9 to £lO 7s 6d ; two-year-old heifers from £4 to £5 each ; steers, from £3 12s §d to £4 17s 6(1; calves, from 25 to 35s each ; beef, 25s to 283 per 100 lbs,
Sheep penned in insufficient numbers for requirements, and met ready sale at an advanced price. Half-breds sold from lis to 15s each ; lambs, from 7s Gd to lgs 9d each. Piers were more plentiful than for some time, and sold readily at from 4d to 5d per lb.
