Accident.—A. painful accident occurred to-day to one of the seamen of the barque Santiago, named Douglas, who was engaged stowing wool. He was holding a bale at ihe main hatchway with a wool-hook, when a lurch of the vessel threw the bale into the hold, and he fell with it. Jn his descent his left knee came in contact with the combings of the hatch, and received a severe wound. He was brought ashore, and was attended by Dr. Spencer, who sewed up the wound and applied the usual remedies. Though the blow received wa« a severe one, the patient's limb was not broken.

The Late Gales did considerable damage. Trees have been blown down in many places, several chimneys have ". come to grief," and fences have been prostrated. The old observatory, near the Hospital, though strongly fixed by means of guys, was overthrown. One effect of the late heavy rains has been the sweeping away of the bridge by Danvers' paddock. Thje traffic will be seriously impeded until this is replaced. Fine weather has apparently again set in.
