THAMES.
Tuesday, Feb. 21. The week's crushing of 80 tons (including 2 tons specimens) from the Caledonian Claim has resulted in a yield of 7,779 ounces. The bush fire on the ranges has been very destructive, and caused immense damage. Several thousand tons of firewood and mining timber have been burnt, and three crushing mills have had a narrow escape. One crushing mill has been destroyed by a burning tree falling upon it. A man while sleeping on the deck of a cutter at the Thames rolled off and was drowned. The body has not been recovered.
A slight decline has taken place in the shave market.
