Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1871.

To Correspondents.—" Censor " tomorrow.

Resident Magistrate's Court. — K"o cases to-day. Telegrams of European news by the Suez mail may be expected to-night or to-morrow morning. It will be seen by advertisement that the nomination and polling days for the Havelock election have been fixed.

The District Court was opened at 10 a.m. to-day. Several cases of bankruptcy were dealt with. Michael Heb den, W. H. Chaundy, and Messrs. Gibbs and Jew received their discharge; the case of Thomas Bell was adjourned to next sitting. Leonard Roper applied for his discharge, which was opposed by his principal creditors, John Stockman Buchanan and Tom Baldwin Buchanan. The case was adjourned to the 6th March. We will publish a fuller report to-morrow. This afternoon D. McLeod was charged with obtaining money under false pretences by a valueless cheque The particulars have already appeared in our columns. The case was not concluded when our reporter left.

Fire. —A fire was discovered at about 4.15 this morning in the premises belonging to Mrs Bell, opposite Mr Garry's smithy. The neighbors were quickly on the spot, and many willing hands were soon at work in ex languishing the flame?, which, however, were not got under until the whole block, with the exception of a house belonging to Mr White, was destroyed. It was only by great efforts, and the use of wet blankets and other appliances, that the cooperage and smithy on the opposite side of the road did not take iire, the heat on that side of the street being almost intolerable, and the wet blankets being burned through in many places. We hear that an inquest ™ill be held with a view to discover the origin of the lire.
