Sunday, Feb. 12. Captain Wynyard, son of the late Lieut. General Wynyard died suddenly yesterday of cancer in the liver. Arrived—Lord Ashley, from Napier; James Patterson, from Sydney. Departures—Novelty, for Sydney, and Chrisna for Newcastle. Wednesday, Feb. 15. M'Leod has been returned for the Bay of Islands, with a majority of 64 over Carleton. There is great excitement in the share market in consequence of the recent finds. Shares in the Caledonian, Belfast, Poverty, Nonpareil, Cures, and Tookey's are in demand. The Airedale was insured in the Southern Insurance Company (Australia) for .£6,000, the amount for which she was purchased. Mr M'Lean has gone to Waikato. It is rumored here that* Webb has purchased out Halliday and Brenham. The Rodney election is over. Farnell is returned, having defeated Shepherd. The Success has arrived from Norfolk Island. The Wallabi and St. Kilda have arrived at Manukau.
