Exodus.— The town this morning was deserted. Scarcely a shop was open, ami every vehicle, every horse, and every apology for one, seemed to be engaged for the races. The dusty road to Meanee was crowded with pas sengers, and Napier, as a whole, was " out of town."
Yesterday, the cutter Mahia met with a slight accident. She was going out to the barque Santiago with a load of wool, when she got ashore on the Rangatira bank. The sea was breaking over the bar at the time, and the cutter's boat was washed with violence against the side of the vessel, smashing in three of her stanchions, besides doing other damage.
