KAIMANAWA.

The follow ing letter has been received by H. S. Tiffen, Esq.:— Te Haroto, February 3,1871, Sir,—We have arrived here on our way down, and shall be in town about Wednesday next; that is, if we find no change in the country, for, from what we have seen of it so far, we are quite certain it is not at all auriferous ; in fact we have seen no indications of gold-bearing country since leaving the Tauranga river. Since we last reported ourselves, we have been through the Kaimanawa ranges, and have found gold in every place we have We have not found it in payable quantities, but, from the coarse nature of the gold obtained, I am certain there is better to be found in the same locality. We should have stayed longer in the ranges, but, our provisions running short, compelled us to make our way down. We were endeavouring to follow the main range along, but were forced to return, as it was impossible to get the horses through the bush country we met with. We had some difficulty to find the track round the Lake; in several places we had to cut our road through the bush. We shall see the Aripia and Mohaka country, and, if we find it auriferous, we intend giving it a trial; if not, our prospecting it would be mere waste of time. I think this is all I need say at present. Trusting our proceedings will meet your approbation, I remain, Yours, &c, Edwakd King, (For self and party.) H. S. Tiffen, Esq.
