DUNEDIN.
Thursday, February 2. The Synod was opened yesterday. The Primate acknowledges receipt of a communication from the Bishop of Canterbury, calling in question the Primate's right to administer Dunedin, He defends himself, as being in the right, on two grounds, which he considers sufficient; but he leaves himself in the hauds of the Syuod, who will doubtless exercise an impartial judgment. He deems it necessary that the Diocesau of Dunedin should be imme* diately instructed by the Bishop.
The steamer Antrim took fire to-* night, when engaged in conveying Mr, Macandrew and a large party from the Head of the Lake to Queeustown. They had a very narrow escape, a quantity of powder and kerosene having been ou board.
The Times case has been adjourned for another week.
