Some attempts are being made in Peru to induce the women to abandon the use of the mantle with which they cover their faces and completely disguise themselves. There seems to little prospect that they will succeed, as it would render necessary a daily arrangement of the hair, and a greater regard for cleanliness, which the women of Lima are not desirous of having imposed upon them.
