Sheet Almanacs, "We have to acknowledge receipt of sheet almanacs from the offices of the Nelson Examiner, "Wellington Independent, and New Zealand Herald. In the New Zealand Gazette of the 28th inst., a number of Orders in Uouncil appear, dated 31st December, relative to the Outlying Districts Sale of Spirits Act, 1870. The 17th section of this Act repeals the ordinance prohibiting the sale of liquors to natives except, in such districts as may be specially excepted by Order in Council. Among the districts so excepted is the " Napier and Waipukurau" district, which is described as follows :—" This District is bounded towards the Northeast by a line from the mouth of the Tongohoio River to its source, and by a line.drawn North east from the source of that river to the northern boundary of the Province of Hawke's Bay; towards the North-west and South by the boundaries of the Province of Hawke's Bay ; and towards the East by the sea (including the Town of Napier.)" Within the whole of this extensive district, therefore, the old ordinance is still in force.
