The Circular Saw Company's s.s. Lord Ashley, Captain Andrews, from Tauranga and Auckland, arrived in port at 6 o'clock last evening. She left Auckland at 6.30 p.m. on Monday, 23rd inst., and arrived at Tauranga at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Left again at 1 p.m. the same day, and rounded the East Cape on Wednesday morning. Called in at Tologa Bay at 7 a.m. the same day, and landed Mr Ehodes. Bounded Portland Tsland at 1 p.m., and arrived here as, above. Experienced fine •weather throughout.—The Ashley steamed for Wellington and Southern Ports this forenoon. The s.s. Napier, Capt. Bendall, from Tologa Bay, Poverty Bay, and Wangawehi, returned to port at 11 o'clock this morning, bringing a large cargo of fruit, grass seed, &c, and fourteen passengers. She leaves again for Wairoa shis evening.
£he schooner Three Brothers, from Tongoio, arrived in the roadstead this afternoon, but it being strong ebb tide, she has not yet come |nside.
The brig Zingara, with a full cargo of wool* will probably leave for London direct about Saturday next. All claims against the Zingara must be rendered in duplicate to Messrs. |Cinross and Co., agents, on or before Friday (to-morrow.) The barque Santiago was to have left Auckland for this port yesterday. Mr Henry Jeuls, the statistical commissioner pi Lloyd's, gives so.me interesting figures in reference to the-losses of last and previous years. It would appear that the total losses of vessels reported in 1869, were 3343 ; in 1868, there were 3420; in 1867,3459 ; aud in 1866, 3443 r-thua 1869 was a dimiuution from 1868 of 2.9 Q per cent. ; of these totals it appears the standings were, in 1869, 3163 or 27.25 per ggn| ; of the total losses of the year. In 1868
they were 8034, or 29.35 per cent. ; in 1867 they were 3442 ; and, in 1866, they wove 3381. The collisions were, in 1869, 2185 in numher —being 18.82 per cent, on the losses of the year ; while, in 1868, they were only 1923, or 18.6 per eent.; in 1867, they were 2062, or 16.48 per cent.; and, in 1862, 1958, or 16.72 per cent. The missing ships in 1869 amounted to 103, or a per centage of 84; in 1868 to 91, or 87 ; in 1869 to 100, or 81; and in 1866 93, or 84 per cent. The vessels abandoned were, in 1869, 293, or 3.14 per cent.; in 1868, 309, or 2.99 per cent.; in 1867, 436, or 3.48 per cent.; and, in 1886, 341, or 2.91 per cent. It will thus be seen that while strandings were reduced in number in 1869 by 3.74 per cent., and vessels abandoned reduced in number by 19 06 per cent., collisions increased by 10.30 per cent., and missing ships by 5.21 per cent. The heaviest and most disastrous months in the year for losses are, as may be supposed, November, December, and January, these months figuring respectively as 451, 412, and 409, in 1869 season, while May, June, and July of the same year figure 184,149, and 152.
