WELLINGTON.

Wednesday, Jan. 25. The anniversary of the Province was celebrated yesterday with great eclat. The regatta was the best that has ever been here. Shaw, Saville & Co.'s Oup, won once by the Rua Lura and by the Independent office boat, was run for ? and, after a close contest, won by the latter. Great excitement prevailed, in consequence of two sailing boats—an outrigger and a whale boat—which came over from Nelson, carrying off four prizes. A challenge match between Nelson and Wellington came off to-day, amid great excitement; but Wellington won easily. The inter-provincial ciicket match, Wellington versus Nelson, also came off to-day. Wellington won by five wickets.
