I BALED TENDERS will berfcceived ) up to noon on FRIDAY, the 20th day of January, 1871, at the office of the undersigned, Napier, from par ties desirous of .CONTRACTING for ROAD WORK in that portion of the Seventy-mile Bush situate between Takapau and the Manawatu Gorge. The Work will be let in twelve contracts, as follows : I.—From entrance at Takapau, about 3 miles east (nearer Mr Grant's) from the old road, to the open land at the small clearing Tawhiti (the clearing not measured in) about % miles. 2.—Fiom the south entrance into the bush at Tawhiti, to the north bank of the Mangatuwaimii, about 3|- miles* 3.—From the south bank of the Mangatuwainui, to a peg marked 111, south of the Mangatuwainui, about 2 miles, 4 t —From peg TIT to the clearing Whakaroatapu (exclusive of clearing) about %\ miles. s.—From Whakaroatapu to the clearing Piri Piri (no open land measured on either clearing), about 2£ miles. 6.—From Piri Piri to Tahoraite, about miles. 7. —Consists of two portions, viz. : About \ mile between Tahoraite and Orongi clearing, and \\ miles between Orongi and Matahiwi clearing, about 2 miles. 8. —From entrance into bush at Matahiwi, near Pukerangi, to peg VIII, running towards the Manawatu Gorge, 2 miles. 9.—From peg VIII to peg IX, 2 miles. 10.—From peg IX to peg X, 2 miles ll._:From peg X to peg XT, 2 miles 12.—From peg XI to peg XII, at Manawatu Gorge, about 2 miles The whole line is marked out upon the ground The work consists of clearing a roadway, 33 feet wide, of all timber and roots, so as to form a perfectly even surface. The timber and scrub, 16J feet on either side of the roadway, has to be cut down down to within 15 inches of the surface, and to be removed, together with all fallen timber, so as to leave 66 feet in width clear of all timber or scrub. Contracts to be completed within four months from date of acceptance of tender. Tenders to state distinctly the portion of the line, as described by num ber, for which the tender is intended. Tenders to state the rate at per chain. Specifications can be seen, at the Government Agent's office, Napier; Mr Rathbone's, Waipawa; and Mr Drower's, Waipukuiau; and Mr Hudson's, Wallingford; and further information will be supplied on application to Mr Weber's Survey Camp, on the Bush line.
