The s.s. Napier, Captain Bendall, returned $p port at 8.30 last night, bringing a cargo of wool, apples, grass seed, &c, and 14 passengers. She left Napier at 5.30 p.m. on the 7th inst., and arrived at Wangawehi at 3 &.m. on the 11th; landed two boatloads of pargo, and proceeded to Turanganui, arriving there at 8 a.m.; landed stock and cargo, and left at 7 p-m. the same day, arriving at Tologa Bay at midnight j shipped 50 bales of wool pn the 9th, and left at 6 p.m. that day for Turanganui; arrived off the bar at midnight, anchored until daylight on the 10th, when phe crossed the bar, and shipped a quantity of frujt, grass seed, &c.» leaving for Na'pior at 10 8,.m., and towing the schooner Herald out. Shortly after leaving the wind set in from the |fi.s;.E., a hd blew very heavy, with dark dismal feather, and heavy rain. Rounded Portland
weather being so thick and dirty, anchored under Mahia at 4 pm. At midnight the weather moderated. At 3 am. on the 11th the wind shifted to the westward ; weighed anchor and steamed down the Bay. When off Wairoa the wjnd suddenly chopped round to S.E., and blew very bard, setting in a heavy sea, with thick weather and rain. At 9 a.m. stood back for Long Point, anchoring there at noon the same day. At 2.30 p.m. on the 12th, the gale having taken off, weighed anchor and steamed for Napier, arriving in the Iron Pot as above.—The Napier leaves for Mangakuri to-night. The 5.9. Taranaki, Captain Wheeler, left Auckland at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 11th inst.; rounded the East Cape at noon on the 12th, and dropped anchor in Ahuriri roadstead at 6 o'clock this morning. Experienced variable winds with hsavy cross sea throughout. Reports having sighted several schooners off the East Cape. We have to thank Mr Moss for full files.—The Taranaki steamed southwards this afternoon. The brio; Maggie took her departure for Newcastle, N.S.W., at 8 o'clock last night. The ship Asterope leaves for London direct to-morrow, with 2,378 bales and 34 bags wool, and 2 passengers, viz. :Mr Ferguson and Mrs Donovan. The schooner Meteor left Auckland for Napier via the East Coast on the Bth inst. The schooner Onehunga left Auckland for this port direct on the Bth inst. The s.s. Go-ahead was to have left Auckland for this port at 4 p.m. yesterday. It is possible she may be detained for the English mail. The s.s. City of Melbourne, with the outward mails for Europe and America, left Auckland at midnight on the 7th inst., with 53 passengers, including the'hon. Mr Voge), Mrs Vogel, and 2 children, Mr Gray (Post Office), Mr Fox (Secretary to Mr Vogol), Mr Domett (Assistant-Secretary to Mr Vogel), Mr and Mrs fl. H. Hall, Mr and Mrs Herr Bandmann, &c. The new steamer Golden Crown has been launched at Auckland, and made a very successful maiden trip to the Thames on the 4th instan c. On the 4th inst. an official enquiry was held at the Custorn-house, Auckland, into the cause of the recent running ashore at Mercury Bay of the schooner Ocean Wave. The proceedings being private, we are unable to give the result. The ketch Eagle, from Poverty Bay, arrived at Auckland on the 10th inst., with a cargo of wool and oil. The schooner Tawera left Auckland on the Bth inst. for Poverty Bay. The barque Kate from Sydney, the schooner Lady Darling from Melbourne, the brig Moa from Starbuck Island, and the schooner Leonidas from Fijis all arrived at Aucklaud on the 9th instant.
