TAURANGA.
Thursday, Dec. 22. The 6.8. Lord Ashley, from Napier and other Southern Ports, arrived here at 7 am. yesterday, and steamed for Aucklandat 3 p.m., having as passengers two telegraphists. A ruptui'e is expected between Te Him and Te Moananui, the decision of the Lands Court with reference to land at Ohineinuri being disputed. Mr James Mackay, junior, is endeavoring to smooth matters. Waihi reports that, a Maori King's messenger has arrived to the Pirirakaus (Taitranga), soliciting assistance to take possession of the Waikato confiscated lands. They have refused. The Native Lands Court here is progressing satisfactorily. The Duke of Edinburgh and his Excellency the Governor return to Auckland to-day. The party visited Maketu, and met with an enthusiastic reception. The following places were al*o visited —Taheki, Lake Tarewera, Hot Springs, Wharaewamama, Rotomatiana, Ngahapu, Rotokaupa Terraces, and Otukapurar.gi. The Maoris were enthusiastic everywhere. There were dances and presents made to the Prince. The Prince also saw the Chief Te Warn and forty natives who surrendered recently. While in camp the Prince wore the Arawa costume—shawl a la Maori—which greatly delighted the natives.
