DECEMBER. 17—Flirt, brigantine, 99 tons, M'Kenzie, from Auckland via Mercury B sy, with 30,000 feet sawn timber, 120,000 shingles, 45 tons firewood, LeQuesne —.Master, agent.
The brigantine Flirt, Gapt. D. H. M'lvenzie, arrived in port about 11 o'clock this forenoon bringing a large cargo of sawn timber, shingles, and firewood. Captain M'Ker.zie reports having left Auckland on the 7th insfc., arriving at Mercury Bay on the 9th. Loaded, and left for Napier on the 14th. Had light fair winds as far as Portland Island, which was passed at 5 o'clock last evening. From Ithence to port, strong westerly breeze, arriving here as above.—The Flirt, we learn, will proceed to Lvttelton on or about Wednesday next.—Captain M'Kei'zie reports that shortly after leaving Mercury Bay on Wednesday last, he observed a stmsll steamer, bound couth, keeping close in to the land. In all probability this was the Napier, and if so, we may hourly expect to see her put in an appearance—unless, indeed, the prevailing Houtherly wind detains her. The s.s. Lord Ashley is announced to leave for Tauranga and Auckland at noon on Mon- * day next, 19fh inst. We presume she may be expected from the South to-morrow evening or Monday morning. The s.s. Omeo, from Melbourne, arrived at Hokitika at 11.15 last night.
