About 25 miles of bush requires to be felled 1 chain wide, and a roadway cleared and stiynped of 20 feet. The Work will be let in contracts of 2 to 3 miles as here inafter described, viz. : No. I.—From the entrance of the Manawatu Bush, at Takapau, to the Makotoku sti'eatn, about 2£ miles No. 2.—From Makotoku stream to Mangatewai-iti, about 2 miles No. 3.—tfrom Mangatewai iti to [Viangatera, about 2£ miles No. 4.—Eroni Mangatera to Tahoraiti, about 3 miles No. s.—tfrom Tahoraiti to Matahiwi, about lijr miles No. 6.—From Matahiwi towards the Manawatu Gorge, 2 miles more or less No. 7.—2 miles more or less from No. 6 contract towards Manawatu Gorge No. 8.—2 miles more or less from JSo, 7 contract towards Manawatu Gorge No. 9. —2 miles more or less from Wo. 8 contiact Exact limits of Contracts Nos. 6 and 9 inclusive will be fixed after survey.
